About The Position
Mission Commander- Site Director ( Chicago)
At Kid Explorer Club, we're on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower young explorers. As our Mission Commander, you'll lead the charge at our Chicago site. You will oversee the daily operations of our educational and recreational programs for children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching environment. This leadership position requires a passionate individual with a strong background in child development and program management, dedicated to fostering a positive atmosphere for both staff and children.
Position Details:
- Age Group: 3-12 years old
- Activities: Art, sports, music, STEM, aquatics, field trips, special events, and more
- Team: Junior Counselors, Counselors, Program Leaders, Specialists, Coordinators, Swim Instructors, Extended Day Staff, Assistant Site Director
- Supervisor: Kid Explorer Club Chicago Site
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Mentorship
- Lead with dedication, integrity, and professionalism, setting the standard for excellence in before/ after school and camp leadership
- Serve as the main point of contact for collaborators, partners, facility partners and headquarters, embodying the spirit of Kid Explorer Club in all interactions
- Coach and mentor staff to provide exceptional care and guidance to campers, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented work environment
Operational Management
- Oversee all aspects of before/ after school and camp logistics, from move-in to move-out, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation
- Manage daily transportation and carpool operations, welcoming families with enthusiasm and coordinating procedures with precision
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to ensure the seamless execution of before/after-school and camp activities and events.
Strategic Thinking and Problem-Solving
- Make informed decisions to optimize the camper and staff experience, considering both short-term goals and long-term objectives
- Anticipate and address challenges proactively, collaborating with headquarters to develop effective solutions
- Embrace opportunities for growth and learning, continuously seeking ways to improve and innovate
Communication and Representation
- Communicate effectively with headquarters, advocating for the needs of your team , club members and campers
- Represent Kid Explorer Club to families and facility partners, embodying our values of enthusiasm, helpfulness, and professionalism
- Lead by example in upholding camp policies and standards, ensuring a safe and positive environment for all
Requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited undergraduate institution
- Experience in education, sports management, or social work fields preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience working with children
- Certification in First Aid & CPR (or ability to obtain prior to start date
- Ability to perform job-related tasks and work in outdoor environments
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of site operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement educational and recreational programs that meet the needs of children aged 5-12 years.
- Supervise and mentor staff, providing training and support to ensure high-quality programming and safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and community partners to promote a collaborative environment.
- Monitor the physical, emotional, and social development of children, addressing any concerns in a timely manner.
- Manage the budget and resources for the site, ensuring efficient use of funds and materials.
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.

Salary: $56,265
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within educational or recreational settings.
- Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices in program management.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification is required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
